How to get folder or multiple folders size

In order to get folder size in File Explorer you need to right click on that folder and select Properties. You will see a properties dialog with Size and Size on Disk lines which will have current size of the folder. Please note that for large folders it can take significant type to calculate its size. You need to wait until Size and Size on Disk will stop changing.

Also there are two other useful numbers there in line called “Contains”. This line has number of files and folders in selected folder.


If you want to find out size of two or more folders together you can select them in File Explorer using mouse or checkboxes (select “Item check boxes” options in “View” tab to enable check box selection). After that you need to right click on your current selection and choose Properties. You will see dialog similar to the one you see for individual folders with Folders size and files count in it.


How to compress multiple files or folders

In order to compress files or folders you need to perform following actions. Select files or folders you want to compress using either mouse selection or check boxes. Go to the Share tab in File Explorer. Click on Zip button there. File Explorer will create new ZIP file with selected files and folders in it in compressed form. In order to view compressed file content just double click on it in File Explorer.


How to check file or folder for viruses

If you’re concerned that some files on your hard drive or other device may contain viruses you can quickly scan them with Windows Defender right from the File Explorer. In order to do it you need to select files or folders you want to scan. After that you need to right click on your selection and choose Scan with Windows Defender menu item.


After that you should see Windows Defender opened and scanning process will start. Once it is completed you can view the report about threats found in selected files.
